#50PP Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon

The 50 Playwrights Project (50PP) will host its first annual Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon on Saturday, September 9, 2017. The 50PP Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon will bring together participants who are interested in #Wikiturgy, or editing and writing high-quality Wikipedia articles about theatre.

Our Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon is dedicated to updating the digital presence of women, LGBTQ+, and Latin@ playwrights and theatre artists of color. We are also interested in #Wikiturgy focused on culturally specific theatre companies such as Cara Mía Theatre Co. and organizations such as the Latinx Theatre Commons and The Kilroys that are dedicated to updating the narrative of the American Theatre to include more historically underrepresented voices. This event continues the work of Jules Odendahl-James, Catherine María Rodríguez, and Russell Dembin, who coined the term #Wikiturgy (for more, see resources below).

Sounds fun! How and where can I participate?

Anyone can join our Edit-a-Thon via any computer with internet access. Theatre advocates are also welcome to join or organize a gathering in your region. Wikipedia Editors will connect virtually on social media using hashtags: #50PP and #WikiTurgy. If you or your organization are interested in hosting a regional #Wikiturgy gathering, please let us know and we will add you to our list and our Facebook Event.
