Q: How do you self-identify?

Q: Tell me about Bliss. Lecturance.
A: Bliss. Lecturance. A performance of sounds. A collaboration with musicians; sounds (melodies and text phrasing) are informed mainly by bachata and bolero; the physicality is formed by walking, labyrinth routes, jack’s playing and pauses.
Q: What else are you working on now?
A: I am working on three performance theatre pieces that are in different phases (research, editing or/and just beginning); ‘writing’ generated with different tools/disciplines (photography, sounds…). Lots of deleting and editing.
Q: What have been the defining moments of your journey as a playwright?
A: Here I share my ‘defining moment’ now which has the same formative & informative quality that all others that I have lived.
Defining Moment: The awareness of aging. The amazing time of knowing and owning my aging body, with the joy and devotion as I have been aware in other phases in my life. This marks every aspect of my life, especially my writing.
Q: Who have been your playwriting mentors and heroes?
A: My family indeed!!!; poets, visual artists and musicians; Merengue songs/singers/dancers/musicians -for their rich oral history weight, use of language-for their phrasing- for the joyful use of the body -for the precise, vital complementary tasty played parts; Latin@ playwrights from past and present.
Q: What advice do you have for Latinx playwrights at the beginning of their career?
A: I would suggest to treat the process certainties and uncertainties with utmost welcoming arms; that what you have to say and how you are going to say it IS part of your voice, our delight as audience to live it; to not forget humor, the body, the heart and the sun.
Q: What else should we know about you?
A: That my work is created under the umbrella of Performance Autology (a practice that I devised based on my research interests).

P: ¿Cómo se identifica?

P: Hábleme de Bliss. Lecturance.
R: Bliss. Lecturance. Pieza basada en el libro Comrade, Bliss ain’t playing. Es una colaboración con músicos invitados. Tiene diferentes oraciones/plegarias en idiomas antiguos y la base está en inglés; se forma e informa de una de las primeras bachatas que se grabó y un bolero mítico; la fisicalidad está basada en la magistral acción de caminar, rutas de laberintos, pausas y el juego de Jacks. Hablamos aquí en una invitación en el camino para llegar a los silencios.
P: ¿En qué más está trabajando ahora?
R: Estoy trabajando en tres piezas, cada una está en fase diferente (investigación preliminar, editar y otras dándole toques finales). En verdad estoy metida en editar, editar, editar.
P: ¿Cuáles han sido algunos momentos decisivos en su experiencia como dramaturgo?
R: Comparto aquí el momento decisivo ahora, pues es muy parecido a todos los demás (definidos por mi presente -lo más cercano y de ahí todo).
Envejecer!!! Este es un feliz descubrimiento. Este presente, este ‘momento decisivo’, envejeciendo, con la consciencia de todo lo que esto me significa. Que gran privilegio -con todas sus certezas y limitaciones, es desde ahí que escribo.
P: ¿Quiénes han sido sus mentores y héroes de dramaturgia?
R: Mi familia. Los merengues-los cantantes-bailarines y orquestas de merengues (por la riqueza de la historia oral, la temática y la forma peculiar de decirlo, el uso del cuerpo desde la alegría); poetas, músicos y artistas visuales.
P: ¿Qué consejo les daría a dramaturgos en el comienzo de su carrera?
R: Que lo que desean decir como lo quieran decir ES parte de su voz única (que crece y cambia); que no olviden el humor, el cuerpo, el corazón y el sol.
P: ¿Qué más debemos saber sobre usted?
R: Que mi trabajo se crea desde la sombrilla de Performance Autology (Autología del Performance) una práctica desarrollada con los resultados de mis investigaciones-perennes- particulares.
